I actually really love the food here. I can't comment on the authenticity of the jerk chicken, but I think it tastes great, regardless. My major complaint about this place though, is the service. I don't really mind that it takes a long time, as I'm not usually in too much of a rush. But I have to agree with many of the other reviews that a lot of the time, the staff will ignore you. There was a time period when my boyfriend and I would be there multiple times in one week, and the owner would never acknowledge us. He would actually walk past our table to greet others and ask how their food was, and not look twice at us. The first few times, we didn't mind, but eventually we were offended. We were there so often, there was no way he didn't recognize us. At this point we were loyal customers, and it would have been great to be (at least) greeted. My boyfriend (who wasn't as quick to judge) would even attempt to make conversation with him and ask him how he was etc. and he would never give him more than a one word, cold, answer. It's come to the point where we actually feel disrespected when we go in there, which is a shame, because we still love the food and even crave it the odd time! But our pride is preventing us from returning for now. Don't get me wrong.. I realize this is most likely a family run business, and I'm not expecting to be treated as though I'm ordering a $100 meal. But a little common courtesy would go a long way in this place. A simple "hello" or "how are you?" would be great!! This place has great potential... some of the staff are friendly, and the food is great, but that is all overshadowed by the lack of customer service.
My dad really likes the food from this place and I am usually stuck picking up take out on my way home. Most of the time, when I go in I am ignored for a good 15 minutes, not because I'm not visible or because they're busy but the girls at the counter seem to just ignore my existance. I did have a pleasant experience this week. There was a new girl (or one I had not seen before) that was quite pleasant. She took my order by phone and was really polite and as soon as I came in she acknowledged me and had my order ready. The food is ok (at least in my opinion), but definately not as good as when they first opened.
This place is just nasty. I would have to go on a rant to list all the problems. Just look at the other bad reviews. Believe them. Save your money.
Very disappointing. The beef in my chow mien had been cook, frozen then reheated for my meal. It was watery and tasteless. The shrimp had a funky texture and tasteless. The chicken was still pink in the middle. They only had warm white wine or cold red wine..really could not figure that one out! We recieved our food really fast but took forever to get our bill and pay it. The only reason I gave them 2 stars is that my DH Oxtail Stew was very tasty but is rice was tasteless.
Dragged here by a friend. She wont be going back and neither will I. never order food, see someone handle it and cash at the same time. Gooey all the way. What are the Caribbean wave thinking? This is Canada.
I love Caribbean Wave! This place is so different compared to the regular caribbean "rum shop." It is a clean and friendly enviornment where all the staff seem incredibly happy! This place was packed when we got there and while the food did take a little while to get to us, the waitresses and the owner came over to check on us and make sure we were okay while waiting. The fried rice is great; the chicken is fried to a perfect golden brown and the jerk chicken is amazing! Caribbean Wave was recommed to me by a friend and I would recommed it to everyone I know!
I loved the Wave experience! The food was great and reasonably priced. When we arrived we had the option of choosing our table which I thought was great so that we could eat where we felt comfortable. Once we got comfortable our friendly and dare I say beautiful waitress came over to give us menus and take our order. She took our order and served us with a smile and she catered to our needs. When we ran out of drink she brought us water, we didnt even have to ask! Good service! The ambience of the restaurant is spectacular, this is not your average fly by night, run down, foul smelling Caribbean restaurant that we have all become used to. Caribbean Wave has such a clean and friendly air to it, that invites you to come and enjoy their delicious food. It was my birthday and my friends told my waitress to surprise me, they got me cake and played a birthday song for me. It made my day very special, thank you Caribbean wave! My friends and I have made this place our weekly hang out spot. We love it and gaurantee that you will too. The chicken wings are the BEST chicken wings I have had anywhere, EVER. Try them!
I love this place! Been here a few times, its close by and in my area. I usually get the Dhalpuri Potato or Chicken to go, but when I dine-in, I order the rice, low mein and the DELICIOUS roti! Their roti is amazing, I took a couple friends and they absolutely loved it! They need to open another Caribbean Wave in Toronto or Scarborough. The atmosphere is great, its pretty big, with tv's and a bar if you want a beer or another drink. The servers (particularly the ladies) can be not that friendly but the owner is a sweetheart. I would recommend to all!
the first time i went here the place seemed nice. nicely decorated and stuff. but everythign else wasn't as good. the service is beyond slow, its like having snails brining your food.!!!! the drinks took even LONGER to come, dont know why!!! And i totally agree wiht DANNYCD's review posted earlier, the guy just talks and talks an talks and bores everybody about his life. I dont care how much hours you put into your work, i just want my food!! the food by the way isn't anything to brag about. rice was beyond oily, even for chinese food. wouldnt come back on my own.
This restaurant is ok. The food was ok. Nothing to brag about. We mainly had beers, which resulted in hunger thus ordering the food. The service was running at a snails pace. Took forever to get drinks and then drinks again. At least the design of the place was reasonable. Wouldn't go back on my own or reccomend it to others. I have been to better restaurants.
I've been here about 10 times or so. Everything really runs on Caribbean time here. They will take their time to take your order, and if you eat dinner at night, often times all the staff including the owner will sit at one of the tables together ignoring the needs of customers. Your food will take a long time to arrive also. They do not run a fast or efficient kitchen. The owner is a nice guy, but when you walk in, you really get the feeling that you're not doing him any favors by eating there, instead we should be grateful for him and his establishment. He will often times talk to his takeout customers about his life or how many hours he puts in, or when he wants to visit Guyana... He will talk loud enough so that the 3 or 4 other people in the line waiting to have their orders taken can be "entertained" by him at the same time. He really loves to talk himself up. One of my parents is Guyanese and I understand enough about the culture to know that everything is very Guyanese about this place... and to most of his clients, perhaps that is fine, or even just great because it feels like home. I personally get peeved by the lack of professionalism. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and maintained, they really did a great job with the ambiance for a Caribbean restaurant. I like the Chicken Roti, although occasionally they don't have it and can only serve Chinese style food because the chef is not there. If they get your order wrong, or they are out of something, they will often times substitute something for you, but not really tell you about it. If you confront the owner about it, he will casually say oh yes, we were out of X so I just gave you Y... It really goes hand-in-hand with the attitude and idea that you should thank him for being there. I ate there a few times per week when they opened, now I will get something once every 2 or 3 months. It is a convenient location, and when the food is right, it is tastey. I wouldn't make it my regular hide-out, or go out for dinner with friends there, but I will continue to go for a chicken roti once in a while. The owner really has put a lot of hard work into this place, and I can see how some people would love it. It is worth checking out for yourself and making your own evaluation.
I eat here at least once a week, it is good, nice seating....good enough for a good lunch
