After a few years in development, a new clinic has joined the Riverside community and it’s not like the rest. Dr. Marco Lo and Dr. Priscilla Che, both family doctors with a strong I.T. background, have teamed up to create a medical clinic that would address some of the industry’s common shortcomings. “We asked ourselves, how can we do primary care better; more efficiently and more effectively?” Marco explains. The result of their efforts is Magenta Health — a refreshingly efficient, patient-focused family medicine office.
Magenta Health opened in August 2014 and has been receiving lots of positive feedback ever since. Their I.T. team has created a number of technical aids to make operations at the clinic run quickly and smoothly and to avoid administrative errors. You’ll notice them from the moment you step in the door. For example, patients have the option to fill out forms and questionnaires on a tablet to streamline the information gathering process and reduce paper waste.
Part of their strength comes from working closely with people from outside healthcare. For example, their lead technical director was shocked to learn that the processes at most clinics were out-dated, convoluted, and error-prone. Marco points out that “the medical field has been slow moving because physicians go into medicine to practice medicine.” In other words, they simply don’t have enough time to be business managers as well. But the team knew that there was much room for innovation and improvement. “I really enjoy the opportunity to build and innovate. Every day I can see the potential errors that were avoided,” Marco says.
When visiting with the doctors, patients will notice Magenta Health‘s touch screen tablet system nicknamed Chime. Tablets on the outside of all 10 patient rooms allow doctors to simply tap to indicate when they’re with a patient, or when the room is open. This has reduced patient wait times by eliminating confusion and extra work for the receptionist.
