My husband ordered the pasta combo and was very disappointed. The lasagna was horribly over-cooked mush. My dinner was fine, but it certainly spoiled our meal having one of the two so poor. It was interesting that the waitress never asked my husband why he left so much of his meal on his plate.....
On my birthday the family took me to LaCampannina Restaurant 21 George St. Brampton. Reservations were for 7:00pm. Well we were not served until 8:30pm with H'orderves at about 9:00pm. My husband was served with charcoal burned steak, and was asked if he wanted another one to take home "was the same" replied no. My son's fish was dry and hard. Now my food Linguini with Fresh Fish looked very good but was very spicy when I asked for no spices or wine due to allergies, but I woke up sick.
It must be Brampton's best kept restaurant secret. I didn't know La Capannina was open for lunch on weekdays and over the years I was repeatedly told they weren't. Upon discovering this we returned to enjoy an unhurried lunch built around their appetizers. I won't bore you with the details other than to say everything was perfectly executed. Chef Massimo is a perfectionist and sources only the freshest ingredients. A bonus, our waiter was relaxed and throughly professional. If you need a quiet place for a superior mid-day meal, I haven't found a better location in the area.
With 30 years of serving extraordinary Italian food in the little house in downtown Brampton, it was refreshing to return here and experience their well-polished service and culinary expertise again. A few changes have taken place over the years, all improvements, and the food seems to become more refined as the years pass. Some menu items stand out as our particular favourites. The Mussels Marinara cooked in their distinctive spicy sauce shouldn't be missed. The Caesar Salad pays tribute to Caesar with just enough garlic and anchovy to earn the title. Their ever-different Pasta Trio Special that is always available, though not on the menu, is an excellent introduction to their repertoire for newcomers. The linguine with fresh clams is our personal standard for this item. Fresh seafood is a particular strength here too and often my choice.
It is hard to fault an establishment that consistently provides exactly what I expect. I have been here on a number of occassions in the past, but not for several years. It was my memories of the last experience that prompted me to come back, this time with a party of 10. Although a little dated, the restaurant has a wonderful warm atmosphere, which is made even more special by the gracious staff. The service was second to none and the food was a treat. It seems to me that you would be hard pressed to find better, maybe more modern, but definately not better.
I am on my try out Brampton restaurants kick. This one was better than the last so maybe all is not lost here in Brampton. The decor is old and worn out so I did not expect much from the food. I was surprised by the high level of professionalism and quality of the food. It did not match the decoration at all. The owner was nice. John came to my table to make sure everything was ok. He was a bit worn out, to match the décor? Nonetheless, the pride of ownership was there and he could have stayed in his seat at the front. Overall, this place won’t be my fav but was worth checking out.
It makes me sad to think that this is supposed to be one of the better restaurants in Brampton. The parking lot is small & awkward. The décor is an outdated brown and avocado green and the walls are decorated with white x-mas lights and cheap posters of Italian themed scenes. The service was slow only because they had only one overworked and exhausted waiter. The food was bland, the veggies were old and the bread was very stale. I was embarrassed to have brought my mother there for dinner.
Were seated promptly, appetizers, drinks and main course timed perfectly. Service was excellent. Food was excellent. It's located in an old building in downtown Brampton that could probably use a little updating, but has a certain ambiance. It has an intimate feel, sometimes the owner comes to your table to see that everything is ok, and sometimes the chef will make an appearance. Neither tonight, but they were very busy, even so nothing suffered because of it. Will continue to be one of our top picks for Italian dining.
Best Italian restaurant I know. It is like having dinner at the owner's home. The people are wonderful and so is the food.
La Cappannina is the most dependable restaurant in Brampton. Every time I go there the staff always know me by name, know how I like my meals done etc. The food is always hot and tasty and the vegetable side dish to each main meal is delicious. The service is top notch and I have never been disappointed in the 16+ YEARS my family and friends have been going there.
EXCELLENT RESTAURANT, I LOVE ITALIAN FOOD BUT I AM "IN AMORE" FOR FRENCH ESCARGOT. THIS THE ONLY PLACE IN THE WORLD YOU CAN HAVE BOTH. BEST COMPLIMENTS. GIANPAUL AND LORI
If you like good italian food this restaurant will not disappoint. We go to LaCapannina often. The service is good but casual. If you are in a rush, this may not be the place. They are very friendly and the two brothers who own the restaurant love to talk with customers. The mussels in white wine and pepper sauce were always a favourite but the last couple of times it seems they have altered the recipe. Still good, but different than before. The lamb is the best around along with great roasted vegetables on the side. The arctic char is amazing. Well worth the price with the ambiance and very good house red wine. Once they got to know you there is the odd drink on the house.
We have been to La cap many time, its always good, The service is outstanding. There are a few servers I prefer over others but will let you decide. The food is all ways good, it be nice to see some NEW specials, but none the less, we will go back
Having been to a number of local restaurants in downtown Brampton, when I compare them all, La Capannina is becoming a favourite. The service is always excellent, starting from the greeting and throughout the meal. Standouts on this occasion were the roast duck - which was tasty, and very meaty and had a wonderful texture without the greasy aftertaste that often accompanies that meal and the pickerel, which was large portioned and very flavourful. The rack of lamb was enjoyed by both diners who commented on how perfectly cooked it was (medium rare) and how delicious and succulant the meat was.
Not the best, not the worst - have been here and it is consistently ok. nice owners who work hard at remembering guests. My rating is based on my expectations for a meal of this price. I expect outstanding for the $ spent and this place is one of the better in brampton - you always know what you will get
Nothing special about the food; veal was bland and had unappealing texture. First and only visit. This restaurant is definitely overrated and I have no desire to try it again.
We have been coming here for years and have not EVER been disappointed. The food is impeccable, well prepared and reasonably priced. The mussels in peppercorn sauce is a must. For those who don't know, the pasta with garlic and oil is not supposed to taste like spaghetti. Here's to our favourite waiter Frank. RIP.
I just found this website. It has been quite a while since we visited this restaurant due to a move but had to write a review. We LOVE this restaurant. The service is amazing & the food is excellent. We went for my birthday and I was surprised and pleased when the young girl sang "happy birthday" in italian. Highly recommend!
In 18 years of visiting la capannina I have never been disappointed. We have even had a baptismal celebration for 30 on a day when the restaurant is normally closed - the owner, waitstaff and chefs went full tilt to please us including our rowdy kids. **Postings by immature children should be removed from the review site!
I have been trying to write this review for sometime now, I think this restaurant is great the food the service are both great. the young lady who served us, blew us away when she recited their daily specials. The food was served really hot and was so good. You could really taste the quality. I would recommend this place to anyone. However I prefer to go during the week as the do get really busy on the weekend.
