last visit was November of 2009 (just joined this site) used to go for years, especially after I had kids, as on Wednesdays, kids ate free. Unfortunately, they seem to have let everything go by the wayside-service was really bad on our last few visits, and on this last one, took over 2 1/2 hrs to get me and my kids outta there-for a sandwich and some pasta, if you can believe it! Sorry, but that is it for us...
I typically like to only post reviews of "good" experiences, however, that said, based on my dining experience last night, I felt it important to also post a negative, as it is warranted in this case. Visited on a Sunday at 4:30pm. Heavy Metal music was blarring (Ozzy Osbourne and AC/DC just to name a few and would have been more appropriate for an after 8 or 9pm crowd). Ordered 2 entree salads and 1 kids meal. Food came out 40 minutes later (and it was not very busy when we showed up at 4:30). Main waiter serving was pleasant, but very slow and never around. We had 2 different waitresses, in addition to our waiter bring out our food. Neither waitress cracked a smile (booth appeared quite annoyed for some reason). The salads we ordered were bland. No fresh ground pepper offered by waitress. No refills on our pop offered, eventhough our pops were empty by the time dinner came along. At 5:30, we asked for our child's dessert and our bill. Needless to say at 5:45 I had to walk my bill to the front of the restaurant in order to pay as we were heading out. Argggggh. Overall... Salads are bland. Not sure about the other food offerings. Service is slow and not friendly! I really regret spending my hard earned money at this establishment and will never return.
Food was typical for a low-brow Barrie steakhouse...but my problem is with servers. Yes, the girls wear tight pants and look good, but useless as all get-out. Didn't know what beers on tap, and offered no flexibility on what I can add/delete from my order (a GOOD restaurant ALWAYS gives the patron options on what they eat). My beer took a long time getting to me, so I walked over and saw/overheard my server talking to another server about how she had been "kicked out of her place". I asked about my beer, and of course it hadn't been poured yet. Talk on your own time, the customer is waiting. Lack of professionalism all around, and tight pants doesn't make up for your poor service.
My server was acting weird, and didn't really care to service us very well, but there were plenty of other things (waiters) to look at in the place that it makes me want to go back again just to see if I can get that server.
We love visiting this Kelsey's restaurant. The menu has a wide variety of yummy looking meals, and all the ones we've tasted so far have been good. Prices are very reasonable too. We almost always have good service there ... the waitresses are very friendly and go the extra mile to make sure we enjoy our meal. They take the time to answer the kids' questions and wait patiently so the kids can learn to order their own meals. We also appreciate that the restaurant is able to cope with a peanut allergy. Our waitress today even remembered us from earlier in the week and knew to watch out for peanuts for us. The kids love the kiddie activity books .... and interestingly, they seem to change really often since the kids got different ones on Friday to the ones they had had on Tuesday. All in all, we're really glad that this restaurant is available to us, at the half-way mark to the cottage!!!
