Happy hour. After work. The weekend. Any time can be the time for a cold glass of beer. Raise a glass to these friendly establishments in Abbotsford. Cheers! [Photo courtesy of Field House Brewing]
Whether you’re Irish or just want to act Irish for an evening, you’re sure to enjoy an evening out at Finnegan’s. This welcoming pub boasts a great selection of beer (both on tap and by the bottle), as well as assorted cocktails. Located right next door to Abbotsford Centre, it’s the perfect spot for a quick pint or a full meal before a rocking concert or the big game.
For over 40 years, The Highwayman has been serving a great selection of beers as well as ciders, coolers, wines and liquor. The menu ranges from soups, salads and sandwiches to burgers, perogies and spaghetti. Watch sports on the 16 TVs or show off your singing skills at karaoke on Wednesday and Sunday nights. And, every night of the week, you can enjoy crib, pool, darts and poker. If you can’t find a sitter for man’s best friend, make use of the on-site kennel.
Connect with old friends (or make some new ones) in this inviting tasting room, where the communal table and wood-burning fireplace encourage lingering over a pint. Sample Field House’s craft beers by the glass, jar or flight, or fill your growler. The food menu changes with the season, but always features local ingredients in dishes such as pizzas, tacos, soups and grilled cheese sandwiches. In the summer months, musicians perform outside on the lawn.
Available at liquor stores, restaurants and pubs throughout the province, Ravens’ beers somehow taste even better when sipped in the tasting room. Each beer is crafted using locally sourced ingredients. Nibble on snacks such as nuts and pretzels while trying a flight and waiting for your growler to fill. Children and leashed dogs are welcome in the tasting room, too.
Launched in 2016, Old Abbey features a rotating roster of brews (up to 24 at a time), divided into mainstays, seasonals and experimentals. Try a flight, pint or fill up a growler. The tasting room also serves wine and liquor, as well as meat and cheese platters, wings, pizza and nachos. Call ahead for a behind-the-scenes brewery tour.
Go for the beer, but stay for the wings. The hardest part is choosing from the dozens of sauces for the wings, which are divided into sweets (honey garlic, tequila lime), dry rubs (dill pickle, salt and vinegar), hot fusions (pad Thai, pineapple teriyaki) and unbelievable hots (scorcher, Jamaican jerk). Watch sports and pay-per-view events on the giant TV screens, or have a seat on the year-round patio.
