Peter and Sean Madden have had a long love affair with music and literature. Motivated by their mutual interests, in 2004, they decided to open Encore Books & Records, a second-hand book and record shop in NDG.
Initially the father and son duo were in the antiques business, but neither of them could resist buying items they personally loved – books for Peter and LPs for Sean. “After being buyers for other book and record stores for a number of years, we were confident enough to open our own shop,” explains Sean, “and by that time, we had so many books and records, we almost had to open our own business just to sell some of the stock we had accumulated over the years.”
