In the specialized world of dolls and accessories, one could say that Aude Le Dubé is an expert. She is the owner and founder of Coton Mouton, a Montreal workshop that makes dolls and accessories. However, Aude's journey into manufacturing these familiar and loved toys was quite unexpected, as she had no training in sewing or design. Her background was in literature and she had published novels. "I decided to use my free time to make dolls for my two-year-old niece, who I hadn't yet met," recalls Aude, after her first attempt to buy her niece a doll fell short.
With a clear idea in her head, she was unable to find the kind of doll she wanted, but no matter! Aude changed her plans and bought a sewing machine. She learned to use it and bit by bit she began to create an entire universe linked to her childhood in Brittany. "I use pebbles and other natural materials such as linen and wool, which is where I got the inspiration for the name Coton Mouton," explains the designer, who opened Coton Mouton in September 2015.
