So dark we couldnt see the menu. I ordered the prime rib and it was all fat. I comlained and didnt have to pay. But the damage was none.
Food was amazing, steaks cooked just the way we wanted. They melted in your mouth, very good quality. Every seat in the restaurant is a nice spot to sit, very private. Perfect for a romantic night out!
for my 30 some dollars steak, the food and service should've been better. the place needs a facelift as it's 20+ years old now (howard location, they have a new one on riverside dr that i didnt visit yet). i remember back in the mid nineties when they had the salad bar.. they should bring it back!
I tried to submit a new listing for The Keg at the Riverside address but it looks like it didn't go through. I came here with my theatre troupe while on tour. It was late and cold and we could NOT find one place outside of bar food with an open kitchen. The last time I went to the Keg in Ottawa I left never ever wanting to go back again. So with trepidation I went into this restaurant. They very generously re-opened the kitchen just for our group as well as part of the restaurant with larger seating. The waiter was extremely friendly and dealt with our artist madness rather well. He was friendly, helpful and funny despite us keeping him around for a ton of time. When my mushrooms were too salty, he immediately rectified the problem, and cooked them exactly to my super picky needs (no salt, no butter, only olive oil, a little pepper). The atmosphere was dim and warm. It was quiet and perfect for a chill wind down late dinner for an exhausted group after a very long van ride. We were nestled in a nook which gave us some privacy as well, and we didn't feel shamed to converse as wildly as we did. My salad was crisp and tasty with a really nice balance of accents. They didn't overdo it on the cheese and pecans; the greens still came through and the spinach didn't have that gritty after bite that I find in a lot of spinach. It was a very lovely night, and these guys have certainly set a super high standard for Kegs all around.
I have been to the Keg several times. I enjoy the Keg in South Windsor more than the downtown Keg for portion sizes but overall the food is great and always very attentive wait staff.
Sara was a truly delightful server, from recommending the "Lemon Meringue" martini, to the lobster appetizer (sorry, the name of which I have forgotten). Steaks were done to perfection as always, and I love the loaded baked potato's. Thx for a wonderful evening Sara, you made it worth the drive from Chatham! The ONLY thing I would change about this place is the lighting, on a very bright day, it is VERY hard for your eyes to adjust. While I am all for the ambience of the dimmed lighting, I did watch an elderly gentleman have a bit of difficulty navigating his was way to his table.
My boyfriend wanted good steak for his birthday, so where would be the best place to take him? The Keg. We went to the one downtown on Riverside. They have great steaks - our's was delicious - but the rest of the meal was not. What are we paying for? Good food or esthetics? We were escorted to a cramped raised both for two with a lamp taking up a third of the table space by an emaculate, 30 something woman (perfect hair, make-up, figure, crisp white shirt and black pants) to be served by two other emaculate barbie dolls the best steak but in every other way, one of the worst meals of our lives. It was noon-hour, downtown, You'd think the huge place would be filled with business personel entertaining clients. It was empty aside from all the emaculate staff standing around doing nothing. We each ordered a garden salad to begin with. It came in a small "boat" shaped bowl in a perfectly pretty arrangement. A bed of dry, stale green romain lettuce topped with two large slices of red and yellow peppers, three large slices of red onion and two large tomato wedges at either end with house dressing. The tiny "boat" made the tasteless salad impossible to eat. Trying to pick up some caused it to spill out of the tiny "boat" all over the table. Great frustration and disapointment for a seemingly upscale restaurant. What came with the expensive steak dinner? Not much of a choice. No vegetables, just "french fried or mashed". We chose mashed. We were served a great sirlion steak with half a plate of a huge pile of hard mashed red russet potatoes with the skins - yuk! Also on the plate was a strange, ice cold concoction of corn and black beans. Terrible. All this cost $42 each. $84 for one decent steak and a lousy, uncomfortable meal. Tonight, before writing this review I checked the Keg's menu on their web-site. The lunch menu we were presented with had none of the fabulous appetizers. Only three salad choices. I phoned another time to see if there was a better menu selection to be told that SOMETIMES you might get asparagus. Ridiculous. Lousy food - pretentious atmosphere - over priced. Never again. Someone, please tell me there's a place in Windsor to get great steak AND good food.
Pete was a great server, very attentive! It was the first time I tried the blue cheese crusted filet and was not disappointed!!! Todd, however, was not overly impressed with the feature steak (a bone-in New York) and prefers the rib eye. Apps were very good, as said Pete was great. Only thing I would change.... not quite so dark, on a bright day, it is very hard to adjust to to lighting!
I thought my experience was excellent, the hostess girls were very pleasant and welcoming. I had one of the best servers (i've been there a few times) he was funny, professional and knew his steaks quite well. I give the Keg an excellent choice for steaks and service and a warm place to go and splurge a few extra bucks!
We have been to the Keg downtown since it opened, so we were at the mall and hungry and thought let's try this one. Are they the same company?? This location old and very dated, as well are the staff. The menu was the same but right from the first drink the value clearly was not. The drinks had no alcohol in them, we mentioned to the waitress bit she was too busy or forgot to do anything about it. The baked shrimp was all butter and they forgot the cheese. The steaks were great so the evening was not a total write off. If you want Keg ---- Go the the downtown location it is fantastic the food is great, the staff fun and professional - want the other experence go to the mall.
THE STEAKS WERE NOT MADE THE WAY WE WANTED THEM TO BE... WE ASKED TWICE AND WAS IGNORED.
This is the only restaurant I have ever visited that cooks a steak the way I want it not the way they feel like doing it. The service is great and the food is wonderful. It is always the special place to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions. A little pricey but well worth it.
