From the time he was a little boy, Quinten Tran has been a fixture in kitchens both at home and in the restaurant scene. His mother owned a Vietnamese eatery and, Quinten explains, he "grew up doing everything from cleaning tables to doing cash to doing [food] prep."
It didn't surprise anyone, then, when Quinten decided to make food his full-time career. His early years were spent trying out a lot of different things, including a seafood-specific food truck and a catering company that he started in the early 2000s. In 2014, Quinten decided the time was right to strike out on his own with Fresh Off the Boat, a restaurant that would be the "culmination of all the things I've done in my life, food-wise."
Just because Fresh Off the Boat is casual doesn’t mean it doesn’t deliver on service and quality. The urban Asian sandwich shop is serving up some of the best seafood in the city, including its incredible lobster roll. Other must-try menu items include soft shell crab, The FOB (an Asian po' boy banh mi) and the seafood chowder.
Whether it’s at the Queen West restaurant or the summer festivals they frequent, Fresh Off the Boat’s lobster roll is infamous throughout Toronto. Fresh Off the Boat’s lobster roll is inspired by the original classic, served on a bread roll, with freshly made lobster mixed with mayo and other spices. It is served with a side of fresh cut fries and broccoli house slaw.
