We had very poor service: one waiter came to ask, if we were ready to order. We just started talking to him, he turned around and went to meet other people who just came in. Shortly came another waiter, who was chewing gum all the time. The food was very greasy, tasteless, chicken pieces were too crispy, there was hardly any meat, mostly fat. The only food we liked was egg rolls. It was our first and last time at this restaurant.
This rating is for the eggrolls. Everyone I know goes there for the egg rolls. I was waiting in the lobby one time, and one gent there was getting a batch to fly out to Calgary to a friend. Another was getting a batch to take to his cottage. Our neighbors in Gatineau will drive there, and that's a 30 min. drive. One time eating there the service wasn't too good, but the egg rolls are to die for.
I lived in Ottawa for many years and the Golden Palace restaurant became one of a handful of favorite, most-often visited restaurants during my temporary stay. Now that I've returned to my native U.S., living near Washington, DC, my new husband and I endeavor to schedule at least one annual trip back to Ottawa -- which always includes an arrival trip to the Golden Palace... for those famous and unforgettable egg rolls in particular! It will be nearly 20 years since I first visited that fine establishment and am always so delighted to see the many familiar-faced waiters, the newcomers in training -- and partake in their well-prepared, delicious repast. Together, it all adds up to a fabulous experience. The Golden Palace has our highest recommendation!
This is such a wonderful little restaurant and we are fortunate to live just a short 2 min walk away. Love the egg rolls. In fact, no meal is ordered without egg rolls. Their house special fried rice has everything but the kitchen sink in it and is so good. Another favourite dish is the lemon chicken. The chicken pieces are crispy and the lemon sauce is thick. It's not a calory-free dish by any means but for a treat it is well worth it. Beware, this dish is big enough for 2-3 people.
Egg rolls, Almond Guy Ding, Chicken balls (huge with all white meat)...I could go on, nut I am making myself hungry again. The decor looks like something out of the 70's, and the service is good to very good (not great), but the food is what keeps me going back.

There’s one satisfying constant at this third-generation old-school Chinese restaurant: the egg rolls. They’re open ended, which means a crispy finish to the tasty, generous filling. They’re so popular that folks pick up batches for friends before heading out of town. The rest of the menu is made up of standard Canadian-Chinese fare, and the service is sometimes brusque, but those egg rolls are worth the visit.
