I could rate this minus 5 I would do so!! I visited this place for the first time with out-of-town friends. My friends were waiting for me at a table outside. I immediately noticed that the patio was overcrowded. The mandatory 6-ft COVID-19 distance was ignored. When my friends and I decided that we preferred going elsewhere, a staff member (Eduardo) came up to us and attacked us for leaving. He was loud and aggressive and continued his rant right in front of other customers.
The owners can be very rude, don't ever complain because they don't take it well. I heard another table complain about the service and they yelled at the customer, slamming down their hands ... I couldn't believe my eyes. I do not want to go to a restaurant where treatment of customers is so poor.
The Crepe Kitchen is without a doubt the best breakfast establishment that I have visited in quite some time. As a privately owned restaurant, my friends and I take it upon ourselves to visit every Sunday. Not only is this a great place for us catch up with our friends that we have not seen all week, but the selection and quality of the food is incredible.
I politely said to the kitchen person that the food was excellent but the service was horrible and she, someone else from the kitchen and who appears to be the owner yelled at me for saying that. He then followed me to the street and in a very aggressive demeanor told me not to ever come back to the restaurant!!!! wow! this happened on Father's day in front of our 3, 5 and 6 year old girls and wife!!
For sure we go back, best crepes ever, better than in Paris. We had 6 different crepes, four savoury and two sweets (we share the sweets) all good. Everybody happy, we loved! Great food, great services, great price
We were on our way to a Thai restaurant in downtown Oakville for lunch (last minute decision - we live relatively close but the kids were too hungry to make it home and start lunch) when we spotted a sign on Lakeshore advertising the Crepe Kitchen and decided to give the place a try (much to the consternation of my son). It was a Sunday afternoon at 1:30 - and the kids were extremely hungry - we thought that crepes would likely be a faster option. When we entered the restaurant all of the guests had been served. There was only one couple ahead of us in line (you need to order before seating yourself). The kitchen staff of about 5 or 6 (it's an open kitchen behind the register) were not cooking so we assumed we would be served very quickly. My wife and I glanced at each other silent acknowledging that we had clearly made the right choice for a quick bite. We ordered 4 crepes and then, about a minute after, I went back to the counter and ordered 2 french onion soups (approx $96 in total with juices/water). The person at the register asked if the soups should come first and I immediately responded asking that all the food should come together. I knew the kids were hungry and are very picky when it comes to soups (particularly those with a significant onion flavouring). Ignoring my request, the onion soup came in a reasonable time frame (probably 10 to 15 minutes after ordering) with no crepes in sight. After being seated for about 20 minutes or so a group of 6 or 8 teenagers came and ordered - we didn't pay them much attention, but noticed them as they took the table next to us. About five to ten minutes after the teenagers put their order in, the person at the register came over to us and spoke with us, but in broken English so neither myself nor my wife understood what he was trying to communicate - something about someone at another table getting their meal before us but we were next. We assumed that he was apologizing for the wait and we would be served momentarily - which was good as my 5 year old daughter was beginning to get upset. We were shocked and dismayed as the table of 6 to 8 teenagers began receiving their meals. One after another, each of the next many crepes that came from the kitchen were brought to their table. My kids were in shock (with my daughter beginning to cry) as they saw each crepe being served to a table of recent arrivals when we had been there (very hungry) for more than 30 minutes waiting. I asked a server (I think one of the proprietors) when we were going to receive our crepes and we had an unpleasant exchange. We advised that we had ordered an hour ago and still hadn't received our crepes. About a minute later another employee - I think the other proprietor (with haltering English) returned triumphantly advising (with our credit card receipt in hand) that we had only waited 47 minutes. Yes 47 minutes for crepes! Crepes!!! And unfortunately not even very good crepes (which was particularly distressing since crepes really aren't that hard to make). The individual who took our order did acknowledge they made a mistake, and apologized many times after, but the damage was done. They offered us free dessert which was nice, but concerned that the kids needed to be in bed in the next 6 hours or so we declined (if the crepes were tastier we may have reconsidered). We live in South East Oakville and come downtown a fair bit. When we first saw the sign we were wondering how this place escaped our notice for so long. I guess we were just lucky all of this time.
We go to The Crepe Kitchen many times and always have a nice experience, excellent fresh food and services from the owners and their family. Our almost every week visit is great. Anna & Edwardo good job! Thank you for be part of Oakville. By the way, Anna your onion dressing is wonderful. Karen PS for all my blondes peers who have children if they do not behaved properly, please go to the restaurant with the big M on front. Thanks!
Walked in here for a lunch with my family and we were pleasantly surprised. The food was great and so good the service. We completely recommend them!
The sidewalk sign pointed us to something "different" for lunch. The restaurant is small but nicely put together. I had a savoury crepe which was excellent. The mixed greens had the most delicious dressing I've had in a long time. Sweet onion? My wife's dessert crepe (chocolate and bananas) made for a tasty meal and a clean plate. Value wise, I found it a bit pricey but the quality was great so no complaints. The service was good but I didn't really get the walk up order concept. Full table service would just make more sense.
A wonderful intimate spot for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Small, but quaint. A little pricey. Love the french press coffee. Crepes...maybe more seasoning on the savory ones...on the egg, bacon...put the maple syrup on the side..it runs into the salad!...and how about a whole fried egg inside! That would be amazing when you break into that crepe and the yolk runs. Maybe have a special...something that isn't on the regular menu....in general a lovely little gem.
Amazing!! I have been to the Crepe Kitchen a number of times and it has quickly become my favorite place in downtown Oakville. The food is delicious, the coffee is great and the friendliness of the owners is unbelievable. My children love it there!!
My husband and I decided to try this a couple weeks ago. I love crepes so couldn't resist. My hubby ordered the Spanish crepe and I ordered the very French (lemon juice and sugar). My grandfather used to make the French crepes, which I love, and I was feeling nostalgic. Anyway, strawberries are an option. I asked if I could have them on the side and was told no. I thought it was a little ridiculous but didn't say anything. Orders came and my husbands looked and tasted good. Mine did too, just one problem...I got 1 crepe! Literally one with some lemon juice and icing sugar. Clearly not enough for even a snack, never mind breakfast. Anyway rather then ordering anything else we ended up grabbing me something more on the way home-we had already spent $40 and that didn't include the $5 tip we left! For that much we both should have been full. Maybe I should have asked how many it came with, but maybe the guy taking my order should have mentioned it might not be enough for a full meal. 1? Really. Still blows my mind. And I'm not a huge eater but I've ordered this before in Quebec and even there you get 3 or 4.
Although I do highly recommend this restaurant, I have to say it is so busy! I have always liked this place. The food is wonderful even if the restaurant is full. Great customer service from the owners all the time. Susan, Oakville
Excellent savoury crepes French onion soup and yummy sweets crepes , nice people and nice ambiance. Also a very good French press coffee. Pierre, QC Canada
The food & ambience at the Crepe Kitchen was excellent overall. The service as it pertains to the food, the order, and time was good. The service as it pertains to the attitude of the server (perhaps the owner?) was not adequate. His rudeness of the server was incredible. We were purchasing two meals & lemonade and YET he had the audacity, on a scorching hot summer day to ask me not once but three times to put my half empty water bottle away. a) it's a hot day & people should be drinking more water & staying hydrated when out walking and touring towns (like Oakville where the restaurant is located) b) I am lactose intollerant & have other health issues that require me to take pills throughout the day (thus needing the water throughout the day), c) he rudely asked me to "put it away! put it away now! put it away I don't want to see it out! put it away!" multiple times in a manner that was completely inhumane, insensitive to his CUSTOMER'S needs, and my conclusion is that this business has a total lack of understanding of customer service. He should have ignored the nearly empty bottle of water & said, "can I get you another bottle of water?" to which we'd have easily said yes, he could have immediately ignored the water bottle (much to his dismay) but offered to fill our glasses with water, and SERVED his customers who were paying for food & drink to start with. I will never return to this establishment and hope he and his staff learn a lesson about customer service. To earn a dollar sometimes you have to try to understand, appreciate and accommodate your customers whom have all kinds of needs, allergies, and on a scorching hot day in a tourist town like Oakville: you MUST NOT deny walkers a bottle of water. If anything you should do what other successful businesses are doing in Oakville & give your customers purchasing from you a complimentary glass of water, or sell them fresh juice, etc... Horrible service & attitude; frugal to the extreme & cheap attitude makes me wonder where else they are cutting corners...hopefully not on food preparation & freshness of ingredients but after my experience I am suspicious about the entire establishment. Most new businesses try to EARN a clientele by meeting customer needs & going the extra mile. I would easily drop 40-50.00 on lunch again there if I'd had a great experience. After the pathetic performance of the waiter/server/owner(?) at the cash, I can't imagine recommending this restaurant to anyone.
