According to the scriptures, Jesus ascended to his Father forty days after the Resurrection. Rather than celebrating this feast on the fortieth day, Ascension Thursday, the Church now moves it to the closest Sunday. No matter what the day, we remember that Jesus has gone before us to prepare a place for us in his Father's house.
