So, good. The food was delicious, though not gastro-pubby, but rather pub grub. It could use new carpeting throughout. The stand out for us was the service. Our server was helpful, knew the menu inside out, and when we asked for some changes to make one of the meals heart healthy they went out of their way to make it happen. We were seated in a quiet corner...easier for my Dad that he didn't have to climb up a step...but there was loud laughter coming from around the corner. Everyone seemed to be greeted by name at the door. Our server was a nice young girl, but everyone paid attention to us, helping to deliver the meal, checking on how we liked our meals. I worked all through college as a waitress, and I am kind of picky about service attitude, and this was wonderful.
After a disastrous experience down the street at the Thirsty Cactus (left before even being served) we decided to try this place. Service was great, the server was very quick, had lots of great suggestions, and made us feel very welcome. Food was traditional pub style fare, tasted great. Prices were what you'd expect and they had a great variety of local and imported beers on tap. The ambiance was alright...a little worn down...but kind of added to the pub charm of the place. Would go back again for sure, mainly for the great service.
I have eaten at the Winchester Arms many times and enjoyed the food and the atmosphere greatly.I have read the revue from Marsha, and if any of it is true (which I doubt) It must have been a very rare ocasion. the portion sizes are usually to big and the fish is the best I have tasted from any restaurantf. If there were only a few tables occupied that eveing, there must have been something really big going on somewhere in the area, because the place is usually quite full at that time on a saturday evening.
This Pub is no impostor! If you are looking for the real deal, go here! We sat in the front window at the upholstered seats and relaxed while our meal was brought to us by a friendly server! The fish and chips were perfectly breaded and was an entire fillet! Delicious! Authentic! Good even without a beer! Relaxing! Great decor! Can't say enough about it except WE'LL BE BACK and we'll drive from Toronto for it!
Enjoyed a New Years Eve dinner with many friends. Service was efficient and friendly. Dinner was well prepared and presented. A most enjoyable and pleasant evening.
I visited The Winchester Arms recently and was very disappointed with the visit. The restaurant had only a few tables occupied at 7:30pm on a Saturday night. This should have been a dead give away that we should walk right back out the door without ordering anything at all. The waitresses were ok, it's not like they went out of their way to make us feel welcome, but they were polite enough. We ordered the Cajun chicken salad for an appetizer, Scotch meat pie and halibut and chips for an entree, and didn't bother with dessert. My halibut was ok, though the breading on the fish was way too thick. the fish being only a tiny portion of this huge fried thing. The fries that came with the fish n chips claimed to be fresh cut... they tasted as though they were fried, cooled and fried again. (sorta like I got the leftovers from the last order). The scotch meat pie tasted and looked processed. My husband's mushy peas were slightly burned and the mashed potatoes were luke warm. My husband and I both felt a little ill later that evening, and I suspect the food. All in all, I'd bet that 90% of the food from this kitchen was made by someone else and shipped in frozen, because you really can taste it. If I wanted TV dinner style food, I'd buy one for 5 bucks instead of wasting 40+ dollars on this meal.
We visit WA whenever we need a break from cooking. A comfy local pub with typical British pub fare. Good prices, service, and tasty food.
The service is friendly, the ambience is typical of a traditional british pub. The all you can eat wings are a great deal and very yummy. The nachos are piled high. The ingreditents are fresh and dinner is served with a smile.
The food was good tasting , served quickly , and was hot. The servings were large enough to be filling. The waitress was friendly, helpful and prompt in serving and taking away used dishes.
Pub food well prepared, friendly relaxed atmosphere, English style fish & chips. Great draft beer. We're regulars!
Typical pub fare but with a little more care. Very friendly, nice atmosphere, relaxed. Always go here when I'm in town.
A nice looking pub with very good food that is served in portions that won't send you home hungry. The wait staff were very friendly, helpful and competent. We'll go back again often.
Cosy pub atmosphere with friendly staff. Nice 'village' feel to the whole place.
friendly service food is pricey for the quantity served. its kinda dumpy could use some new carpet and a paint job. a lot of old people hanging out getting drunk.
