The restaurant was very reasonably priced and had a good varied menu. the briyani and chicken gravy especially good. I like chettinad varieties in Anjapar always.
The Anjappar chettinad is the restaurant we, myself and my friends, visit frequently. They may not have the wide variety of dishes for the buffet, but what they have is quite enough to say, they are the best in south Indian food. The taste of food is near similar to the flagship restaurant in South India. Apart from buffets, they have quite a menu to satisfy your appetite. They have pretty good service with the friendly faces and the environment is clean with pleasant music. The prices are reasonable comparing to other multi-cultural restaurants and are located in the accessible locations. Definitely would recommend to give a try !!
Gone to this restaurant previously for sit down lunch thing and found the food to be good as in just the typical south indian food - Idli Dosa ! However, decided to have their lunch buffet today and it was the worst buffet ive ever eaten in my life ! The food was cold there was hardly any dosas there and everything just soo random and not organized at all ! from the display to the quality of food - everything was just horrible. the food tasted bad too ! and oh the terrible service we faced ! we didnt receive any menus upon arrival to see if we maybe wanted something from there ! and when we decided on buffet our plates were not cleared until the end when the bill was here ! VERY BAD SERVICE ..coming from a person whos in the service industry !
Visited this restaurant last week and loved it. Chettinad is a South Indian cuisine with unique blend of spices which is very different from the standard "Indian Curry" that you get it most Indian restaurants. It is normally spicier and may be an acquired taste for some. The restaurant however has a successful mix of traditional tandoori dishes, some Hakka Chinese dishes and ofcourse Dosa which is definitely a South Indian delicacy. They presented a tandoori platter as a special which was indeed a terrific combination of kebabs Indian style. The management were clear that it was just a special for some weekends. Thali is a North Indian concept that is now firmly established all over and their mutton thali was just right interms of quality and quantity. Definitely on my list of "to try" dish. They had a Malabar Chicken Kurma dish with Iddlys and this was very good indeed. The Chicken was in a spicy mix which was not a true Kurma ( my ideal Kurma would be creamy with coconut and poppy seed) but very tasty indeed. They do have a brunch which is buffet style over the weekends which has little if any animal protein. If you are looking for a sampler of carbfest of south Indian delicacies this is the (crowded) place to do it. Try their Vadai and Iddly and burn off by running five miles afterward. Their best buffets are the holiday brunches and the website is good for info on these. To my knowledge there are only two Chettinad restaurants the other is Karaikudi in Scarborough (Amma in Mississauga disappeared and Anjappar have another branch in Scarborough). If you are are serious about authentic Indian food you should stop by and try them.
We were there for the Breakfast Buffet and have nothing but good things to say about it. The desi / SL crowd were hungry and kept emptying the trays, but the restaurant folks kept filling the trays... way past 12pm even when the buffet was supposed to be over. We had fresh coffee refills at 12:45. I would give this place a 2 thumbs up, esp since the food was good and the service was nice as well...
