Disappointing
Being new, the pub is clean and uncluttered, which is appealing in a small space. It was fairly busy but not full on our arrival, we seated ourselves. After some wait, I picked up a menu sitting nearby, just to make sure there was something my picky dining companion would enjoy, as we would normally view a window-posted menu before going inside, but there was none. The waitress arrived seconds later, appeared a little miffed. Never offered us a second menu, but we shrugged it off and passed one back and forth. We got a quick briefing on what was NOT available. No problem. I saw what looked to be a delicious plate of fish and chips a few tables away and ordered the same. Food arrived fairly quickly. No one checked to see if it was OK , which was unfortunate. The fish was really delicious. Lovely batter, fresh flaky fish inside. The goodness ended there. My companion's steak was just OK, and he was so hungry he bolted his fries without tasting them, I'm sure. I tasted a couple and left the rest. Burnt but totally limp, and utterly nasty in taste. Our server reappeared to ask "Finished up now?" No offer of dessert, coffee, and there was an unenthusiastic inquiry made about how we enjoyed the food, which seemed forced conversation as she waited for my debit card to process. When a diner very obviously leaves half the plate untouched, perhaps a little effort to see if a substitution could be made, a slight discount, a coupon to try again in the future...any gesture would have been appreciated. This is particularly true in the early business days when first impressions are so important. We both left quite hungry and completely unimpressed. Crossed this place off our list. Oh, I had to hunt down toilet paper in the ladies' room, as well. Not a sheet in either stall.
