Tartantown Ltd was originally started as a convenient location for Highland dancers to buy their dance shoes made in Scotland. In addition, there is a large gift section of many attractive items such as pottery, jewelry, scarves and rugs, childrens clothing, music and Scottish novelties. In 1979 a piping component was added to the store and Terry Lee (who had previously been a part time employee) joined the company on a full time basis. With the added business in piping and drumming related items the store continued to grow significantly and it relocated to bigger and better premises at 555 Clarke Road.
