In 1953, Ralph, a shoemaker from Italy knowing only a few words of English, arrived in Trail, BC. He set up shop in Trail before relocating to the Lower Mainland and opening Ralph’s Shoe Service in 1957. As the business grew, opening in multiple locations, Ralph’s brother Lido joined him to run their Lougheed Mall store, which eventually became owned and operated by Ralph’s son, Paul, in 1990.
“I grew up working in my father’s shop on weekends, during the summer and part-time during college.” says Paul. “Working in the shop is something I had always enjoyed, so when the opportunity arose to buy the store from my uncle, I immediately took it.”
Recognized for their excellence and contribution to the community on a regular basis, Ralph’s Shoe Service has been awarded Best of Burnaby 11 out of 13 years as of 2014, an honour that Paul and his team are extremely proud of. “We have a lot of history in this community, so it’s great feeling to receive this recognition.”

I was surprised, and skeptical, to read the review in which the poster claimed to have been charged for work not done. Ive used Ralphs for over 30 years, and my parents for longer than that, and their work is top of the line. The prices are a bit steep, but, hey--one gets what one pays for. I unreservedly recommend this business to anyone who needs leather goods, and/or shoes and boots repaired.
Paul willingly obliged and for a reasonable cost to immediately repair the lifejacket of my puppy, Zelda who had chewed through it while I ran back in the house for more kayaking adventure supplies. We had a wonderful day at Blackie Spit and Zelda did an inaugural run wit her new towed kayak behind mine. This only could happen because of this management s , Pauls, great customer service.
This must be the worst place you can bring your shoes. I dropped off a pair of boots for zipper repair I was told they changed the zipper slider, but they did not, its the exact one the boots came with, and when I tried them on the zipper was still broken. When I called to confirm what they did, they finally admitted they didn't do anything yet they charged me anyway. Stay away, they are super dishonest.
