Like a karmic explosion, everything seemed to fall into place for Larissa W. when she decided to get back into the healthcare field. Having left her cardiology nursing career in order to raise her children, once the kids became reasonably self-sufficient, Larissa began thinking of working again.

“I figured I could recertify for nursing or do my master’s degree and get into something fun that I really care about,” Larissa says. “So after some Googling, I found that I could get my Masters in Yoga Therapy through the University of Maryland.”

Larissa completed her yoga teacher training in June of 2014 and started looking for a place to teach so she could accumulate hours towards her master’s degree. “I talked to the owner of the studio that I had been going to since 2004, and she wanted to go to India for more training," Larissa recalls. "So I bought the studio and changed the name and here we are.”

Lahari Yoga opened in October of 2014 and Larissa is now getting plenty of teaching hours for her degree. “That’s not all though: I was helping a friend’s mother with her social media campaigns, just a pro-bono thing because we are friends,” Larissa says. “She teaches grief therapy and offered to give me pro-bono education. It counts towards my degree, so I’ve got that going right now as well.”
