"It's important that all our footwear is ethically sourced. I won’t buy shoes from places that do not have fair labour practices and a sustainable approach,” says Ego-Trip Shoes owner AJ Johma. “So I shop in Italy, Portugal, Spain, and some factories in North America. These are from smaller factories, often family-owned, where they put their heart into their soles.”

Ego-Trip Shoes is an unaffiliated offshoot of Davinci Shoes, which has been operating since the 1980s. “My family has been in the shoe business for years. I started when I was 15,” AJ says. “Ego-Trip Shoes has been open since 2013, and this is the first time I've been on my own. I hope this will be the start of another generation of local, independent shoe stores."

    Sassy sandal shops in Edmonton

    Sassy sandal shops in Edmonton

This cozy, high-end shoe store carries a collection of sandals that are Instagram-worthy, even if you only wear them at home. They stock sandals from the brand Buenos in every colour and style imaginable, several styles of Dkode sandals and a handful of sandals from Neosens in grey, brown and black. If you’re looking for sandals with a decent heel on them, the MJUS Zinco sandal in grey or the Freebird Dream in rust are both lovely choices you can find at Ego-Trip.

Ego Trip Shoes is a small store whose carefully curated selection of men’s and women’s boots makes up in taste what it lacks in space. So you’ll still find yourself torn between multiple pairs of flashy boots: The party girl in you will want to go for a cute ankle boot, like the United Nude Eros in black, but the pragmatic Edmontonian in you will know to go for the Dkode Leary over-the-knee boot to keep out the rain and flakes of white flurries.
