Calgary Climbing Centre owner Walson Tai has been hooked on rock for more than 20 years — rock climbing, that is. His climbing gyms — the southwest Chinook location and northwest Stronghold location — have dominated Calgary’s competitive and recreational climbing scene. “It’s a good fit for my personality, work ethic and physical self,” he says of the sport’s demands on mind and body.
The Calgary Climbing Centre operates a northwest and a southeast location. The northerly Stronghold location features an impressive 18-metre lead wall. Climbers can practice and perfect their technique on numerous climbing routes on the main floor, while the lower-level gym promotes physical conditioning. Both facilities offer a full range of courses.
