Montreal is a culturally diverse city with its own culinary traditions. Finding those unique tastes can be tough outside La Belle Province, but authentic Montreal food is a specialty at Alberta King of Subs. Since 1996, the Calgary restaurant has been dishing out authentic Montreal smoked meat sandwiches, poutine and Montreal hot subs to its clientele. “90 percent of our customers are former Montrealers and they are regulars so they come here very often,” says store manager Bryan Nolan.
Even before you walk in the doors you can sense the restaurant’s French-Canadian touch thanks to the Canadian, Albertan and Quebecois flags mounted on the roof of Alberta Kings of Subs. Inside, the fleur-de-lis and the French colours of blue, white and red adorn the walls. This décor is all part of the mission to bring Montreal westward.
But this mission isn’t limited to the store’s look and feel: “we get all of our ingredients from Montreal to be authentic,” Bryan points out. “Our meat is smoked in Montreal and shipped to us. With our poutine, we use fresh-cut fries and real cheese curds from Laval. Our gravy is made with the drippings from the Montreal smoked meat. Basically, it is all authentic Montreal cuisine.”
I have been going Alberta King of Sub for a very long time . But lately I am not sure if it is
new owners but the Quality of Service and Food and portions have shrunk. The people who work the till are extremely rude . It a shame because The restaurant used to be a good place to eat . Not any more. It’s a true shame . I am very disappointed the should be ashamed.
They double charge you on your card. Don't fix their mistake when it happens. They say it never happened when you have proof. Be very careful. Every call you back, so don't even try calling there. But the food is good.
