Prairie Gardens is a popular destination for families, with a corn maze, a play area for little ones and charming greenhouses for a complete farm experience. Picking season begins in late July. All vegetables are non-GMO. Their large selection includes sweet corn, kale, a variety of herbs, summer squash, peas, wax beans, zucchini, beets, onions and carrots. Don't forget to come back in the fall to pick up a pumpkin!
Who better to learn gardening tips from than those who run a farm? Gardening workshops and demonstrations are on a drop-in basis and, best of all, are free. Learn to grow prairie fruit in your own backyard, make a fairy garden and grow your own herbs to make custom teas and add flavour to your favourite dishes. End your day with a RGE RD gourmet dinner, serving delicious farm-fresh meals.
If Mom is a big fan of flowers and nature, she’ll adore the Prairie Gardens’ Mother’s Day Blossom Garden party, which takes place Sunday, May 8. Reservations are required for brunch, with seatings available at 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. There will be hot and cold buffet items, including buttermilk pancakes, breakfast sausage, balsamic pesto chicken and roast beef. Plus, there are plenty of free family-friendly events throughout the day, including a live jazz band, petting zoo, puppet shows, face-painting, train rides, a photo booth and a preview of spring garden plants.
